This site is designed for students at Studebaker Middle School as a tool to successfully complete the 8th grade Gateway to Technology class here in Huber Heights, Ohio.

Gateway to Technology helps students understand the basics of being an Engineer. Throughout the 18 weeks in class, students will be involved with hands-on learning that not only teaches concepts, but also actively engages students.

The first 9 weeks we focus on the critical thinking and spacial imaging involved with Computer Aided Designing (CAD) programs. We use the program Autodesk Inventor to create three dimensional parts and eventually assemble them to build objects such as a Bi-plane. By introducing the 9 weeks with redefining student's technical drawing skills, we ease our way into learning about Inventor and the many, almost limitless, outcomes. Towards the end of the first quarter, students will work on all of the skills learned throughout the weeks to build a bi-plane starting with sketches of the parts, 3-D computer models, and finally actually building the plane from wood in class.

The second 9 weeks of class consists of computer software engineering where students get a taste of computer programming. We will use Scratch as a great way to introduce computer programming to middle school students. Throughout the 4th quarter, students will learn about and practice basic computer programming concepts such as loops and if statements to eventually create an interactive program as their final project.

This website is aimed at helping student success by offering lessons, help from the teacher and from other students, video instructions, on-line note taking, access to student folders for saving work, and a place to take exams with instant results among others. One of the most exciting attributes of the website is the points system in which students earn points for completing daily activities and can use them to play games and earn pizza parties.
